Created by the War Office specifically for civilian consumption, neewsreel footage distributed across the county offered an unrealistic view of warfare.
Footage, such as the one attached, was typical as a staged representation of the Battle of the Somme. Indeed, often footage was not even filmed in the location it was claiming to have orginated from!
