Strange Meeting
Here is a manuscript of one of Owen's most famous poems 'Strange Meeting'.
Look at the third line and note how Owen settless on the phrase 'titanic wars', crossing out 'nether' and 'plutonic flames'. In doing this he moves the setting from a Christian hell to a classical underworld. What do you think Owen achieves by doing this?
