Medal card from The National Archives

This official document shows Percy enlisted in February 1916. Although this is after Conscription was brought in - he might have volunteered. (His regiment number is only 4 digits which points to an early service - afterwards there were so many men serving the numbers are re-structured to lots of digits.) Walter always said Percy died from perforated ear drums, but this card shows TB as the reason for his discharge in June 1916. The other codes point to honourable discharge and that he was eligible to wear the Silver War Badge to show he had done his duty, even though he was back in civvie-street.
