Typescript with notations in pencil, prepared by Marion Scott. Written while Gurney was either at Barnwood House asylum, Gloucester (September-December 1922) or Stone House, Dartford, Kent (the City of London Mental Hospital where Gurney stayed from December 1922 until his death). Manuscript drafts found in the notebook 'GA 45457' entitled 'Best Poems'. Allusions to poets F.W. Harvey, John Masefield, Lascelles Abercrombie, John Taylor, W.W. Gibson, W.H. Davies and W.E. Henley. A version was included in the edition of Ivor Gurney's poems published by Leonard Clark in 1973.
