Charles W. Carr is standing in the rear rank, second from left. Charles' son (Tony Carr) thinks this photo was taken in Gloucester. The postcard's postmark is Epping 26 April 1915, and Charles writes that "we are going back to Chelmsford" to his sister in Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire (now Powys), Wales.
Part of large collection of photos and memoribilia relating to Serjeant 3091 (later 240965) Charles Woodward Carr, 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment - kept by Mrs Gill Porter and Mr Tony Carr of their father. Editor's Comment: Men parading in the emergency Pattern 1914 infantry equipment, with the Japanese Type 38 Arisaka rifle, purchased by the government on the outbreak of the war as a temporary training weapon. |
