These are the discharge papers (2 pages) for George William Wellsman (my grandfather), dated Dec 1917. I suspect that the regiment is Yorks & Lancs. That is the Yorkshire and Lancashire Regiment. I have had a look at the World War 1 Medal cards and there is a William George WELLSMAN, Air Mechanic 3rd Class 65868, Royal Flying Corps. He was medically discharged from the Army. I have uploaded a photgraph, under the name of John Rhodes, which may actually be the photograph of George William Wellsman.
John Rhodes and George Willaim Wellsman are both my grandfathers. I only have one photograph but I am not sure which grandfather he is. If anyone has any further information regarding this I would be grateful. Thank you June Wellsman (Now June Boorman) Editor's Comment: The photograph mentioned is of Pte. 28493 William George Wellman, as proved by the York and Lancaster Regiment Capbadge. According to these record of service papers, he enlisted in this regiment on 5th July 1916, and transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on 7th March 1917 (regt. number 65868), becoming an Air Mechanic 3rd Class and with whom he served overseas. Thus his medal card only mentions his service with the Royal Flying Corps. Discharged as medically unfit, 27th December 1917. |
