Enlisted: September 1914 Demobilised: June 1919 Period September 1914 to September 1916 with 2/1st Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry, No. 4 Troop, C Squadron. Regimental No. 3648. and during those two years quartered at Regimental Depot in Manchester, also Southport; Kendal, Jillicoulby & Ladybank nr Cupar. Period September 1916 to June 1919 with 2nd & 8th Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. On active service in Macedonia, finishing at Batumn, a Russian fort on the Black Sea. Regimental number 25763. D Company, Transport Section. Editor's Comment: Photograph of Pte. Whitham in the uniform of the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry. Note the 'broad arrow', signifying government ownership, shaved into the horse's coat. |
