Notes |
The attached postcard was found by me whilst searching through my late father's papers. I believe it would have been given to my grandfather James F Gray (known as Jim) by his pal Bill. My grandfather served with the 16th Royal Scots and was wounded on the first day of the battle of the Somme a few months after his 18th birthday. I believe Bill to be W (William) Taylor, a friend of my grandfather's, both of whom came from the village of Dirleton in East Lothian, although I have been unable to verify that as fact.
Although my grandfather survived the war (he died in 1975) W Taylor was killed in 1917 age 19. |
