494 Sergeant Joseph Cecil Thompson [standing right] with unidentified officers probably of the 9th Battalion 1st AIF. French postcard portrait 1916 or later.
Editor's Comment: The colour and shape of patches on the upper sleeve indicate the men's Battalion. The crown above chevrons shows that Joseph Thompson held the appointment of Company Quater-Master Serjeant., while the man stood to the left of the photograph is a Warrant Officer Class II. Note the mixture of Australian (standing) and British (seated) jackets, and that the Australian Imperial Force only wore appointment badges on the right sleeve. |
