Notes |
David Murie was my husband's great uncle. First of all he was on active service with the British Expeditionary Force and then in "B" Battalion, Tank Corps. He died on Friday 23rd November 1917 in the first tank battle at Cambrai. Further information in other attachments.
Editor's Comment: Photograph of Pte. Murie in the uniform of the Machine Gun Corps (Motors). Although the cap badge is obscured by goggles, the embroidered shoulder title, mounted pattern greatcoat, and breeches all indicate this unit. Many men went on to join the Tank Corps from this formation. Pte. 200257 David Murie, 'B' Bn. Tank Corps, was killed 23rd November 1917 and is commemorated on the Cambrai memorial. He originally served in the Royal Field Artillery (service no. 1093). |
