Notes |
My great uncle Private Frank Kelty (1714) joined the 2nd / 10th Manchester Regiment in 1916. He died on the 5th of September 1916, at which time he was attached to the King's Liverpool Regiment, and is buried in Euston Road Cemetery in France.
I was told he had joined under age and his elder brother informed the authorities and he left the army and went to work in munitions. He then rejoined the army when he was old enough, but it is apparent from his diary entries that he had done so very reluctantly. This is a part transcript of his diary. The actual diary is damaged, we believe by shrapnel that we also believe resulted in his death. He had made daily entries in the diary up until the 29th August 1916. This leads me to believe that this date was the day he was wounded. Images of the diary have been submitted separately. |
