Notes |
Letter sent by the British Red Cross and Order of St John Enquiry Department for the Wounded and Missing to the mother of Corporal John Rhodes. The letter follows up a report sent to her in September with information from a Private J. Appleyard, who saw a shell fall in the spot where he knew Rhodes to be have standing a few minutes previously. As Rhodes was not accounted for afterwards, the letter concludes that it seems likely he was killed. The letter is typewritten, and is signed with the initials RL, on behalf of the Earl of Lucan.
