Notes |
Phyllis Haviland worked as a nurse throughout the Great War. The attached images are the pages of her autograph book, in which she allowed wounded soldiers to draw sketches and write poetry. I believe she is the nurse photographed with her patients in images 02 and 03. 04 relates to her family, and 05 has photographs of soldiers orphans. The rest of the book contains sketches and poetry.
While most of the content seems to relate to the time when she worked at St Marks Hospital in Chelsea, London, she may have moved to a hospital in St Albans later in the War. One or two of the later notes may have been made there. |
