Tom and Charlie are William's brothers. Thomas Henry Wenham served as private 40722 with 8th North Staffordshire Regt. He was wounded in the head by a shell at Wytschaete on 9 June 1917. Although he recovered he was no longer fit for front line service. After serving with the Royal Defence Corps in the UK he returned to France in 1918 with a PoW Company of the Labour Corps (by this time his number was 653000).
Charles Wenham served as private 28180 with 10th Lincolnshire Regiment. He died of wounds in hospital in Leicester on 17 November 1917 and was buried in Cleethorpes cemetery. Transcript: "My address is Name: Lc Cpl. Wenham Christian Name: William Comp: British Camp of prisoners of war 5th Batt Lincs Regt No: 2683 Cottbus No. I Germany Mrs. Wenham 45 Barcroft St New Cleethorpes Grimsby Lincs England 1.4.17 Dear Mother and all. Just a line in answer to your welcome letter. I was very pleased to hear that you are all well, as it leaves me alright. I am very pleased to hear that Tom & Charlie are keeping well. I am receiving parcels now. I shall be pleased to see you all again. Give my Love to Maria & Tom, also to all I know. A kiss for the children xxx. No more. From Your Ever Loving Son. Billy xx" |
