A plaque to the memory of the poet Hedd Wyn is located further along this road from Boezinge to Langemark, just after Pilkem at a cross roads on a building opposite De Sportman bar. Ellis Humphrey Evans (bardic name Hedd Wyn) served as a Private in the 15th Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. The memorial plaque records that he was mortally wounded near-by on the 31st of July 1917.
