A German Taube

The Hon. Agent at Margate (Mr ES Whitehead) received from the Mayor (Mr W Booth Reeve) a cheque for £5 5s in aid of the Society’s funds. This sum had been given to Flight-Commander Bone by an admirer of his courage in bringing down in the sea some 30 miles away a German Taube which he pursued in his small aeroplane. The gallant aviator, however, refused to accept any reward, saying that he only fought for his country’s honour, and asked the Mayor to present the money to some deserving nautical institution. The Committee specially recorded their appreciation of this generous and thoughtful action.
