A hand drawn picture showing a German soldier wearing a spiked helmet typical of the early war period. He holds out a letter (or is possibly striking at the mosquitos that surround him whilst trying to read the letter), as he sits amidst a swamp. This is a field postcard sent to a girlfriend (?) The title 'In angst und bange auf der stange' is mocking.
The soldier was of the 81st reserve regt. Possibly the swamp is in a training area in Germany. |
