Notes |
Christmas scenes on the Western Front, probably 1915. The Prince of Wales leaves a house to enter a car. A steam pump in operation by a canal lock, probably the Yser Canal. Troops, possibly new arrivals, entering billets. A field kitchen. Soldiers digging. A "Christmas ride to Berlin" showing British soldiers riding horses while wearing gasmasks. A horse obstacle-race. A ""ride of the Amazons"" of soldiers wearing skirts riding through shallow water. A ship coming into harbour. An RHA troop waiting to move off. British soldiers using a hand pump to clear a waterlogged trench. The date of Christmas 1915 is uncertain, but the format is that of early British official film, and Christmas 1916 seems too late. Also, there is the Prince of Wales, recorded by Malins as filmed at Christmas 1915.
